The Beverly Hills Hotel

When the executive chef of The Beverly Hills Hotel called Kimberly to inquire about commissioning her to create the showpiece cake for their huge centennial celebration, she found it hard to contain her excitement! It was a huge honor to get a call from a call to provide something special for the hotel that she’s admired for so long.

Originally the GM of the hotel asked his team to have a replica of the hotel made in cake. After doing a walk through of the hotel with the Chef and Director of Events, Kimberly sensed that there were so many details of the hotel that they would like featured….details that would be lost in a scaled replica of the hotel. She asked if they would consider changing plans to a more interpretive cake design, one which would include all of the signature elements of the hotel, in a grand show piece.

After consulting with the GM, he agreed to let Kimberly do what she does best, so she got to sketching. The approved design resulted in a towering cake that was befitting of the grand occasion.

All of the elements that make you think of The Beverly Hills Hotel were recreated on the cake. Kimberly hand-painted the photo that hangs behind the bar of the Polo Lounge, as well as painted a tier of the famous banana leaf wallpaper. The top of the cake featured the three spires with their flags and patina domes. The team chipped in hand modeling hundreds of little boganvila flowers, while Rainbow went to work creating the most gorgeous greenery out of gum paste. We took great pains to recreate the exact pink and green hues that are the hotel’s signature colors.

The best part of the whole experience is that The Butter End Cakery was invited to be a part of their extended team, as a preferred vendor! We couldn’t be more honored to be a partner of this magnificent venue.
