A few years ago, Kimberly Bailey, owner of The Butter End, flew to St. Louis to take this workshop with Jen. A fan of her work from IG (@jen_art), Kimberly wanted to learn how to paint animal portraits in such an elevated style. While Kimberly had never painted with oils before, her fear and trepidation vanished immediately under Jen's teaching. She is kind, easy, specific and fun. The result? Over the course of the three day workshop, Kimberly painted not one, but two portraits of her dogs that she loved enough to frame and hang in her house!
So excited to have Jen teaching at The Butter End Studio.
You don't have to be an expert artist to take this class, though every artist of every level will learn amazing things from Jen.
In this three day workshop we will open with a lecture on the palette, and how to observe, analyze, and apply, what we see. What's the subject and environment telling us? It all starts here.
The rest of the morning will be spent drawing from your reference images. Followed by a lecture on color and saturation.
Day two will open with a painting demo. The rest of the day and into Day Three will be spent painting and receiving frequent guidance and critiques.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided each day. And, of course, cake will be served as well!
The studio is a light-filled, open-air industrial space, large enough for us to spread out and feel comfortable.
Confirmation email will include detailed list of materials to bring.
